First off, I would like to thank everyone that responded to my RFI for Joshua Tree. I made sure to get the family to stop at Big Morongo Valley Preserve on the way to Joshua Tree based on suggestions. The weather was nice and semi-warm, but the wind was howling down through the valleys on Sunday which really dampened the bird activity. I did pick up a few life birds, but nothing like I thought I might. Still it was great seeing a different part of the country. The landscape of the park is awesome and a must see if you haven't been there. Here's the life birds that I found:

Black-necked Stilt - in a pond north of Hemet, CA
Northern Mockingbird - near the Best Western in Hemet, CA
Great-tailed Grackle - in Yucca Valley, CA
Lesser Goldfinch - Big Morongo Valley Preserve, CA

I'm also pretty sure I heard a Canyon Wren at Barker Dam in Joshua Tree NP.

Thanks again for all the information!

Good birding,
