My wife and I just returned from a trip to Dauphin Island, Alabama to visit
a friend. I had a dozen or so life birds, and enjoyed mostly warm, sunny
weather. I would recommend this destination for spring migration.

My lifers were: White-eyed Vireo, Cerulean Warbler, Black and White Warbler,
Wood Thrush, Carolina Wren, Indigo Bunting, Louisiana Waterthrush, Hooded
Warbler, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Mottled Duck, Fish Crow (what a
distinctive call!), and Northern Gannet.

In addition, here's a partial list of the other species seen (you can
presume many of the more familiar northwest species, i.e. American Robin,
are on my list too):

Willet

Black-bellied Plover

Semipalmated Sandpiper

Brown Pelican

White Pelican

Common Loon

Tri-colored Heron

Merlin

Prothonotary Warbler (the place was lousy with them!)

Least Bittern

Laughing Gull

Gull-billed Tern

Sandwich Tern

Royal Tern

Blue-grey Gnatcatcher

Chimney Swift

Snowy, Great, and Cattle Egret

Northern Cardinal

Blue Jay

Northern Mockingbird

Imagine what I might have seen had I not been looking down with every step
to avoid stepping on a Water Moccasin!
