When I moved to my house last year I hung a tube-type thistle feeder. I saw
nary a bird at it from when I hung it (in the springtime; changed seed
regularly) 'til about three weeks ago, when a horde (as opposed to a flock)
of Pine Siskins moved into the neighborhood and have been eating me out of
house and thistle. Yay!

Today I replaced the tube feeder with a thistle sack my uncle gave me (many
thanks, Uncle Karl!), and guess what showed up?! An American Goldfinch!
Cooooool! He was molting into alternate plumage, didn't have his full black
cap yet, but had lots of yellow and gave that AMGO call when he finally flew
into the hawthorn tree. I'm Thrilled to have this bird visiting!
