Hi Guy and Tweets

While not common, "Slate-backed" Dark Eyed Juncos are present in low numbers
every year. We usually have at least one or two of them in with other flocks
of juncos at Marymoor each winter. If you scan your junco flocks the
likelihood is pretty good that you will see one sooner or later.

One thing to look out for is intergrades, birds showing characteristics of
both slateys and Oregons. At first glance they may appear as "pure" slateys.
The "pure" ones will be all slate gray above and white below with no hint of
buff or pink.
