Hi All,

Delia and I went up to Two Rivers Wildlife Management Unit today. ?(To get there, Head south from downtown Monroe on State Rte R 203, make a right on Tualco Rd., and watch for the parking lot).

One of the highlights was meeting Bill, a really nice guy based in Monroe who told us about a 10-sparrow day he had at Two Rivers back in the 90s (Tree, White Thr., White Cr., Golden Cr., Harris, Song, Swamp, Lincolns, Fox, & Savannah) which compared favorably to the four-sparrow day we had today. Bill was quite knowledgeable and is stewarding Tree Swallow & Wood Duck houses there. He didn?t volunteer his last name, maybe because he was afraid I?d call and pester him to join the YardBirdRace (Join today, see the leaderboard at ednewbold.com)

On the way home a flock of Western Grebes and a Great Blue Heron were visible from 520.

Our Violet Green Swallows have returned although they always absent themselves during cold weather. Anyone in a position to put up a Violet Green Swallow box?now is the time!
