Subject: [Tweeters] RFI: Baikal Teal Nocturnal?

Dear Tweets and Obolers:

After seeing the exquisite BAIKAL TEAL in the Kent Valley (WA) ponds yesterday (4:30-5:30PM), I wanted to know more about its usual range and behavior. I discovered (via several sites on the Internet) that this is a mostly nocturnal feeder, resting by day. No wonder it's seemed so elusive! During the day, it's roosting; and at dusk, it perks up enough so it's been spotted. When predators (Bald Eagles) disturb it in the daytime, it's roused enough to provide brief looks, but it goes right back to snoozing. Can anyone out there provide more insight on this incredibly beautiful bird's behavior?

Thanks to everyone who's kept the rest of us informed of the Baikal's whereabouts! It was well worth those three trips (1000 miles) and 24 hours worth of scoping!
