All...

Birded up the Columbia River Gorge, yesterday, Saturday, Apr 9'05.
Basically from Hamilton Island to White Salmon, including Conboy NWR.

Temp: In the low 50's all day
Weather: Mostly sunny, crystal clear with few passing rain showers.
Very windy all day, especially at Conboy.
Cloud Cover: Approx 10% or less most of day, hitting the 100% with
rain showers.

Hamilton Island -

5 Turkey Vultures - on the wing, white showing on wings
~40 American Robins - everywhere
1 Peregrine Falcon - Sitting in a smallish bush, female, mask
clear but muted
2 Greater White-fronted Geese - mixed in with small gaggle of
Honkers
22 Canada Geese - Branta Canadensis I believe
~10 Violet-green Swallows - Saw them all day feeding over still
water, not on any waters opening to River
2 Mallards
2 Gadwalls
2 Great Blue Herons
6 Double-Crested Cormorants - right under the Dam, feeding as
a group until ~6 Seals showed up then the Cormorants dispersed quickly

6 Seals - Really, saw the seals working their way up river to
the bottom of the Dam structure itself

Little Salmon River (Cook-Underwood Road) -

3 Mountain Bluebirds
1 Wild Turkey
4 Steller's Jays

Conboy NWR - Weather very very clear & with wind blowing pretty
briskly. Mt Adams stark and clear against the blue sky. All the water had
that deep blue look on days like this. Much of Camas Prairie was in standing
water.

18 Red-winged Blackbirds - Red over Yellow, Watched about six
eager fellows courting one shy lady. The males were sort of hunching forward
and puffing out the red on their wings... Doing their best to impress the
lady.
3 Killdeer - Flushed on Krepps Road
2 Northern Harriers - coursing at opposite ends of the NWR
4 Western Meadowlarks
6 Mallards
3 Sandhill Cranes
1 Wood Duck - Full & spectacular plumage
1 Steller's Jay
1 Hairy Woodpecker - female, right markings, no red on head
~15 Violet-Green Swallows - rough guess at one spot, saw lots,
always over still water

SR14 just west of Drano Lake -

1 Osprey - on telephone pole having lunch

Good birding day in spite of short list... Woodie was highlight of
day for me...

Good birding to all...
