First off a correction about yesterday's post: Umptanum Rd should have read
Umtanum Rd.
Today was day 2 of our (Mike Fleming's and my) trip, slowly working our way
back towards Cle Elum. Here the highlights:
American Avocet (9 at Soap Lake - 7 at south, 2 at north end)
Eared Grebe (10+ birds at Soap Lake - many in breading plumage)
White-throated Swift (all along lower Grand Coulee, along Jameson Lake Rd
off US2)
Cliff Swallow (Soap Lake)
Violet-green Swallows (all along lower Grand Coulee, along Jameson Lake Rd
off US2)
Golden Eagle (Sun Lakes SP - we could not find the Lesser Black-backed Gull
reported from there last weekend)
Chukar (1 at Lake Lenore, 1 about 1mi east of Jameson Lake Rd & US2, 2 at
Swakene Canyon)
Barrow's Goldeneye (close-up looks at 4 pairs at Jameson Lake)
Brewer's Sparrow (2 singing about 0.25mi east of 172 & US2)
Vesper Sparrow (1 about 0.25mi east of 172 & US2)
Townsend's Solitaire (2 at Swakene Canyon)
Mountain Bluebird (1 pair off Teanaway Rd)
At about MP2.5 on FR9737 off Teanaway Rd, we had a probable Goshawk.
Annoyingly, a Great Horned Owl was hooting in the background at the same
spot distracting us. FR9737 was blocked by snow at about MP3.5.
Somewat unrelated, but interesting yet saddening was the fact that we saw 5
roadkilled domestic cats, yet had no dogs. A bad day for the felines!
