Hi:

While driving into Tacoma southbound on I-5 just before the Puyallup River
bridge, a Sandhill Crane flew over the freeway at an altitude of no more
than 30 or 40 feet. I'm not a great bird IDer and at first thought it was a
Great Blue Heron but the coloration was somewhat different (lighter), the
neck was fully extended forward with just a slight "S" shape to it, and it
didn't have the black plumage on the back of the head. I was able to see it
very clearly as it was directly in front of me at that low altitude. I have
seen Sandhill Cranes down at Mora (Olympic National Park), but never around
here.
