Thanks to all those who pointed out that the Bushtit nest was built recently and is in use. Although the nest looked to be in very good condition, I figured that it was probably not a current nest because I didn't see any birds nearby and because of the timing. Bent (L. H of N.A. Jays, Crows and Titmice) gives later dates, in May and June, even into July, for nesting of what he called the "Coast Bushtit." When we take the Birding 101 group out there this coming weekend, we'll be sure to show them the nest.
