I seem to be finding lots of Bushtit nests this spring, but last Friday
I saw something I haven't seen before. I was at Discovery Park in
Seattle and noticed a Bushtit nest about 6 feet up in a bush, right next
to the trail. It looked kind of tatty, so I watched it for awhile to
see if it might be in use. In a few minutes, a Pine Siskin landed atop
the nest and began to pick pieces out of it and drop them on the ground
(Was it pirating nest material or looking for insects?). Almost
immediately, a Bushtit flew up and chased the siskin off. The Bushtit
then disappeared into the nest.
