Tweets - weathermen don't know squat. The weather report when I left the
house this morning was 70% chance of showers, winds 15-20 m.p.h. Sounded
like it was going to be just about the worst possible weather for birding.
So I was somewhat surprised to get to Marymoor and find only thin, high
clouds, and no wind. Mt. Rainier was beautiful at sunrise. There were only
4 of us birding this morning; maybe the others (that weren't out of town)
got scared of the weather reports. The birds weren't particularly active;
maybe a better thing to say is that there wasn't a lot of sitting on exposed
perches singing, or territorial battles. Maybe after the bad weather
recently, the birds were more interested in feeding and getting warm in the
sun. But we ended up seeing a good list, and we had 4 new species for the
year list:

Green Heron One flew east across the dog meadow again
Wood Duck 5 (3 males) at RC pond
Rufous Hummingbird The nest at the Rowing Club has babies
We saw the female come in and
feed them,
though we couldn't quite see
them.
Red-breasted Sapsucker One south of the dog area, one at Rowing Club
Cliff Swallow First at Marymoor for 2005, 1 near
windmill
Barn Swallow " " " , about 5 near martin
boxes late
HERMIT THRUSH Two, one south of Dog Central, 1 NE of mansion
Yellow-rumped Warbler MANY, mostly male Audubons, 1 Myrtles
Fox Sparrow Still quite a few, all "sooty", some
singing
Brown-headed Cowbird They're BACK

We also had two DEER at the Rowing Club.

We've now found 4 BUSHTIT nests at Marymoor, including 3 at the Rowing Club.
There was another one there, but I think it was abandoned and "canibalized"
for parts. The first two nests were first noted, having been just started
to be built, on March 9.

For the day, 62 species. For the year, 98.
