Greetings all:
Ryan Shaw and I went around south King County today. We spent a small part
of the day intensively searching for the Baikal Teal at the Smith Brothers'
Dairy, where a couple of other birders have also been searching the last two
days. There have apparently been no sightings since Wednesday. In that field
there are two male Cinnamon Teal, a Common x Green-winged Teal integrade,
and amazing numbers of 5 swallow species. Good numbers of ducks continue
there, most easily gauged when the Fenwick eagles cruise by.

Between checking that site we also birded other spots in the area. Lake
Fenwick had about 15 Wood Ducks and a Hermit Thrush. At the Riverview Marsh
was a Mandarin Duck, apparently paired with a female Wood Duck (though the
nearby male might have a few things to say about that). Kent Ponds had
another 'Common' x Green-winged Teal and 7 Cinnamon Teal. Three Barn Owls
were in the box on Frager Rd.

The highlight of the day was encountered when we drove north from the Boeing
Ponds, over to S. 200th Street. In a field north of the old Frager Road
intersection was a flock of Cackling and Canada Geese (mostly minima and
taverneri, with a couple parvipes-looking things). With those birds
(specifically with a flock of Taverner's) were 2 Ross's Geese.
