Terri,

The Yellow-bellied is very much an eastern North American woodpecker, and the
Red-naped is an eastern Washington State bird. My Sibley Guide doesn't have
any green rare sighting marks in Western Washington for either. Opperman's
Washington Birders Guide in his species distribution bar graphs shows the
Red-naped as rare in late April in Western WA, but that is more than Puget
Sound.

A locally common woodpecker that looks like these species and has a
confusingly similar name is Red-brested Sapsucker.
