Tweets,
The Baikal Teal was seen at about 5:30 PM on Sat Apr
16th. I was down on 277th, when someone (sorry, I
forgot EVERYONE's Name!) came down from the upper
viewpoint to say they had the Teal! So we all raced
up the hill, and had good scope views as the Teal
preened, then moved out into open water. It was
originally sited in the small pond, closest to the
viewpoint, in the short grass. It moved out and back
(to the SE) into the open. Then it flew away, and
landed in the far (East) side of the large pond, kinda
in the south-east corner. Then it hunkered down again
and was not seen for sure by the time I left.
Also At the 277th viewpoint, I saw an American Wigeon
that had an almost all white head. The green swipe
thru the eye was completely surrounded by creamy white
all across the top of the head, and below the green on
the cheeks. It seems like I've seen this variant
coloration on a Wigeon before, but could not find it
in Sibley or the Geographic. Any comments on this
abberant plumage?
And earlier I had gone past the Boeing ponds, and saw
lots of Cackling geese of various sub-species, and
Canada Geese, and the 2 Ross's Geese were also present
on the ponds.
Not a bad afternoon!
Guy
