Monday, April 18, I birded a few locations in south Thurston County for a
couple hours.
Highlights included:
at Weir Prairie (Rainier and Military Rds):
> 0 Bobwhite (maybe because it was midday?)
> 3 male Purple Martin (calling and singing; 0 females; perched in the
burnt snags "island")
> 1 Vesper Sparrow (singing; out near the 4-way "intersection")
I vaguely recall martins being reported at this location, but I am not
personally aware of any nesting reports. Migrating through?

Five sparrow species also present: Vesper, Chipping, Song, White-crowned,
Savannah (no Golden-crowns here)

at Waldrick & Military Rds: Four thrushes: Robin, W. Bluebird, Varied (a
surprise here) and (my target bird) Hermit. My personal first 4-thrush
location.

Firsts of the season included MacGillivray's Warbler & Green Heron (though
they could have been around for some time), both along MacIntosh Lake on
Military Rd.; plus a C. Loon on the lake.

Plenty of siskins, yellow-rumps, and House Wrens around.
