Greetings Tweets -

In recent days I've been surprised to notice Bald Eagles at seemingly
unusual places in the Olympia - Lacey area.

On the afternoon of the 19th I saw an adult circling over the Olympia
westside shopping mall "neighborhood" and being harassed by an adult gull
and an American Crow. (On the other hand, this location is only 2.8 miles
east-southeast of Mud Bay where I see eagles on the tide flats
occasionally.) It pays to look up occasionally.

On the 21st, while attending a meeting at the Lacey Community Center, I
happened to glance out the window to see two adult eagles circling the
adjacent Goose Lake, occasionally dropping to the water surface, and being
harassed by 2 adult gulls. I hade them under observation for about 5
minutes. (Goose Lake is only ~10 acres and appears to be a groundwater
lake with no through-flow, thus is unlikely to have much of a fish
population.) It pays to be easily distracted when in a meeting.

Unusual locales or not, both were excellent treats.

Doug
