Tweets - MaryFrances Mathis and I swung quickly through the Kent Valley this
morning. We were able to find the BLACK PHOEBE near Emerald Downs that was
previously reported by the Sullivans at around 10:30. It had been visible
earlier in the morning, disappeared, and then popped up again. We watched
it for a couple of minutes, then it flew seemingly under the bridge and
disappeared not to return during the next 15 minutes or so.

The nearby pond had some peeps (but distant looks even with a scope), and a
LOT of Green-winged Teal.

We were successful again in finding the WESTERN SCRUB-JAY previously
reported by Kathy Andrich. This bird was on Frager Rd. S, just north of
where it passes under SR-516 (Kent-DesMoines Hwy). It was on the west side
of the road. We weren't sure where to begin looking, but just as we began
our look-around, a crow swooped down at something in the blackberries, and
we heard a very Scrub-Jay-like squak. So that's where we looked. Moments
later, the jay flew a short distance along the blackberry row down the
embankment from 516, allowing us good looks.

On our way home, we made a quick stop at Boeing Ponds, which were pretty
quiet. We did have a CINNAMON TEAL, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, at least 1 SPOTTED
SANDPIPER, and Carol Schulz (who we bumped into there) found the
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD along the mud edge of the penninsula.

Not a bad twitch morning.
