Hi Tweeters,

When I got back to work this week I knew the Medina
Great Blue Herons had likely hatched chicks since I
could see the Seattle Kiwana's herons making repeated
trips over Portage Bay. A good clue.

I went on Wednesday to Medina and found heron chicks
in their goofy glory. The ones in the big, lowest
nest in the cottonwood tree are strong, mobile and
easy to see. They only have pinfeathers on their
wings, no tails, and fluffiness on the head and neck.
There are at least 4 chicks in this nest.

I can hear one Bullock's Oriole doing his whistle song
but for the life of me could not get on him.
Otherwise mostly the usual suspects here.

Tomorrow at 7:30pm is a free and open to the public
narrated slide show by Morey Wetherald about the
herons at St. Thomas Episcopal church right across the
street from the heron site. His presentation is very
good. On Sunday at 1-4pm several East Lake Washington
Audubon members (including yours truly) will be
showing folks the herons up close through scopes. All
are welcome.

For more information and fabulous directions check out
the St Thomas website. The herons are the third story
down in the main center of the website. The
directions link is in a bar across the website at:

Happy Heroning!
