Hi Tweeters;
What are the chances of having a flock of Red-crossbills land right in
front of you to get a drink of water; have the sun come out for the
first time all day;
and be standing ready with camera in hand! Today I was working in the
woods and decided to walk home just as a flock of Red-crossbills landed
in a Douglas fir tree nearby. I could actually hear them clicking as
they extracted seeds from the cones. This was only one of four times I
have seen them all year. I was walking along toward home reflecting
on what a fortunate experience this was when out of nowhere the flock
swooped down right above my head to drink from our pond. I thought my
heart was going to stop. Also on the way home a Pale Tiger Swallowtail,
the first Swallowtail this year, landed next to the trail to get his
photograph. A piece of heaven.
