Am a "newbie" to birding and looking for input re: spotting scopes. Have read many descriptions and what to look-fors, but am interested in what personal experiences have taught.

Will need a window mount, I know.
Tripod?
Waterproof?
Zoom v. fixed power lens?
Workable parameters for magnification. . .

Have really enjoyed the many photos. A wonderful educational tool!
