Hello, Just wanted to pass along a couple of observations regarding the
stint which may help those still seeking it. In the 3 1/2 hours I have
studied the bird it was always doing one of two things: either calmly
resting in one spot or feeding by constantly walking to and fro while only
occasionally picking at the mud. I mention this only because it may help
eliminate "distant candidates" if those individuals tend to linger in one
spot and repeatedly probe or pick. On both days I encountered the bird (and
perhaps several other days if I remember the posts correctly), the bird
"appeared" from the west, as the tide was nearing its highest levels. My
assumption is that the stint uses the mouth of the Dungeness River until it
is made impossible by the rising waters. At that point it moves to the area
near the Three Crabs Restaurant where mudflats are still available and a
smaller stream empties into the salty straits. Hope this helps.
