Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 4. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

The YELLOW-BILLED LOON is still being seen at Yaquina Bay, usually
downstream from the bridge. A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was seen July 27 along
the Metolius River near Camp Sherman.

On July 30 a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was seen on the North Spit of Coos Bay,
and another was at the mouth of the Necanicum River in Seaside. MEW GULLS
are now showing up along the Oregon coast.

Huge swarms of fish eating birds are now gathered at Seaside where large
schools of anchovies have moved close to shore. An estimated 12,000
CALIFORNIA GULLS and 5000 HEERMANN?S GULLS are the most conspicuous with
MURRES, cormorants, and WESTERN GREBES also being seen. On July 28 a CLARK?S
GREBE was seen there.

On July 31, 88 WESTERN GREBES and 7 CLARK?S GREBES were on Vancouver Lake,
north of Vancouver, Washington. At Fern Ridge Reservoir July 31, 48 WHITE
PELICANS and 21 GREAT EGRETS were seen.

A MARBLED GODWIT was seen July 25 at Summer Lake.

That?s it for this week.
