FYI, a bit more about this site (i.e., the little shoreline cove just west
of 3 Crabs Restaurant parking lot) at mouth of Dungeness River. I check this
spot out somewhat regularly year-round and so do a number of other local
birders. It seems to me that it's better for more kinds of species when the
tide's out just a bit (i.e., coventional wisdom is often that it's best an
hour or two before a high tide, which doesn't seem to be the case here). I
think this is because of a smallish, freshwater side-channel of the
Dungeness that enters the Strait here (the bigger part of the delta-mouth is
a bit farther west). So this site offers an inviting little spot for
freshwater bathing and drinking by birds; e.g., I saw a Pac. Golden Plover
on these somewhat exposed flats here last fall at about that tidal stage. In
winter, on high tide, it's often good for wigeons (including some EUWI) that
gather here to eat the floating skeins of algae that always seem be here.

Fred Parent and I got up early this morning and tried for the bird,
without success. Things are certainly different between now and when
I was there last Saturday. No Canada Geese to be seen and shorebird
numbers in general were a lot lower. I fear it may have moved on but
I hope it is found again for all the people who didn't get to see it
but wanted to.
