Subject: [Tweeters] Common Eiders at Point Roberts?

Patrick, Ruth and Tweeters,

This sighting was reported to TWEETERS on June 14 by Larry Cowan,
as part of the Vancouver Rare Bird Alert transcript for that date. However,
I
am not aware that any documentation (i.e. field notes or photos) was
obtained, and other observers looking for these birds in subsequent days
were unable to find them.

If in fact no documentation was obtained, I think this would have to be
regarded as a questionable sighting, particularly in view of the
extreme rarity of Common Eiders anywhere south of Alaska.

Subject: [Tweeters] Common Eiders at Point Roberts?

Hello Tweets,

We just received the latest issue of ABA's Winging It(July-August 2005
issue)and scanning through the "Northwest" section of the Sightings column
we read that there were a pair of Common Eiders at Point Roberts on June
12th. Does anyone know of this report and if so is this the Point Roberts in
Washington(Whatcom Co.)or possibly a different Point Roberts? We don't
recall the sighting posted onto Tweeters or in the Vancouver RBA
transcriptions/postings that Wayne Weber does so well, but perhaps we missed
the sighting. Thank you for any information you may have.

Sincerely,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
