Subject: [Tweeters] Merlin at Edmonds

Yesterday, 8/9/05, I visited the Edmonds waterfront for the first time. It was a very nice place.

I had an exciting view of a very dark Merlin as I crossed the walkway over the marina. The bird actually flew under me and out towards the pier that bisects Marina Park.

I also counted 9 Purple Martins about the Ferry Terminal. 6 Western Sandpipers were on the sandy beach going north. There was a huge congregation of gulls, Canada Geese and a Great Blue Heron on a Point to the North but I couldn't get to it. It looked like there was an interesting wetland nearby but I ran out of time.

Also seen: Caspian Terns, Pigeon Guillemots, Rhinoceros Auklets, Double-crested Cormorants, California Gulls.....
