Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 11. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

The YELLOW-BILLED LOON continues to be seen at Yaquina Bay. A LONG-BILLED
CURLEW was seen there August 4.

The shorebird migration increased during the week as the main movement of
juveniles moved into the state. Mixed flocks of warblers and other woodland
birds were reported from many areas as the fall migration is underway.

On August 7 an immature COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD visited a feeder in Bandon. That
day 225 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were seen on Coos Bay off Millicoma Marsh. On
August 3 an unusual gathering of 29 PACIFIC LOONS were on Alsea Bay at
Waldport. On August 8 a female BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD visited a feeder in
Waldport. On August 7 a PARASITIC JAEGER was at the large waterbird
gathering at Seaside. A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER and four BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS
were at the Necanicum River Mouth the next day.

On August 8 a MERLIN was at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. A
RED-NECKED GREBE and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were near Sherwood August 8. On
August 10 a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was seen on Coffin Butte in the EE Wilson
SWA north of Corvallis.

About 200 WHITE PELICANS are now at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend. On
August 10 a BROWN PELICAN was seen there.

On August 8 at Lake Abert, 800 EARED GREBES, 250 BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 2260
AVOCETS, 26,000 WILSON?S PHALAROPES, and 1300 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were
recorded.

That?s it for this week.
