Tweets,
please note the time this was written ;)
The mystery of my midnight-calling/screeching bird has
been solved. It finally woke me up at O-Dark O-clock,
and I blearily staggered out the front door, bins and
flashlight in hand. The caterwauling and screeching
is from at least 2 Great-horned Owls. I got a good
look at one in a snag in a neighbors yard.
Surprise was that it is NOT the usual "Hoot" calls I
associate with GH (I have not heard that here since
February!), but this tortured screeching.
I believe the Stokes tapes had a sample of this call,
but I've been hearing this off-and-on for about 2
months now! Must be much more common than I
presumed, or maybe these are the Juvies.
I noticed I had left my computer running, so could not
resist sending this message out in a "Timely"
fashion.
Now if I can just get to sleep with all this screaming
outside my window....
