Hello Tweets,

This afternoon while making a short stop to check for dragonflies at Homestead Park in University Place near Tacoma I discovered a Solitary Sandpiper and a single Lesser Yellowlegs foraging together on the pond shoreline. It was a nice treat to see both these shorebirds species at this location and to add to other recent Solitary Sandpipers being found in western WA! This was my first personal record for the greater Tacoma area and I was pleased to have the Solitary Sandpiper stay for some photos, while the Lesser Yellowlegs flew off and did not return. The lighting wasn't the best, but I was happy I had my MACRO lens attached to my digital camera, which is the lens I use solely for dragonfly photography. The pond is only a little body of water and it is neat to see what can show up when you least expect it! Also of note while watching the Solitary Sandpiper I observed good numbers of recent emerging Pacific Tree Frogs popping up from along he edges of the pond an many tadpoles still remain at the waters edge. My photos of both the Solitary Sandpiper and the different colored Pacific Tree Frogs can be viewed at the following link:
