Karen & Harold Cottet and myself birded Reardan
Audubon Lake for a couple of hours this morning
(8/15/05). The west side ponds provided us with
fantastic views of STILT SANDPIPER -7 (county lifer
for me and a state lifer for the Cottets),
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER - 8 (state lifer for the
Cottets), BAIRD'S SANDPIPER -5, LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER
-2, WILSON'S SNIPE -6, and LESSER YELLOWLEGS-2.

On the east side, there was a flock of RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES-18 , a WILSON'S PHALAROPE, SPOTTED
SANDPIPER-2, BLACK-NECKED STILT -3, and a basic
plumaged BONAPARTE'S GULL.

It was interesting to see the species mix change over
the last couple of days. On Saturday, we had large
numbers of Baird's & Western Sandpipers, and a pair of
Semipalmated Plovers, but no Stilt Sandpipers or
Red-necked Phalaropes. Anyone wishing to obtain good
photos of Reardan shorebirds would do well to visit
this week.
