Earl Chapin observed 13 LONG-TAILED JAEGERS at the City Beach in Sandpoint,
Bonner Co ID on 10 Aug. Five were adult birds with full-length tail feathers
and all of the birds were flying south. Thanks to Bob Bond for passing along
that observation.

Good quantities of shorebirds, and a good assortment of species, was
reported region-wide this past week. Species included WESTERN, LEAST, BAIRD'S,
PECTORAL, STILT, SEMIPALMATED, and SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, WILSON'S and
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, AMERICAN AVOCETS, BLACK-NECKED STILTS, GREATER and
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Most of these were seen at
the usual spots, including Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID, the
Walla Walla River delta in western Walla Walla Co WA, Lane Marsh in Kootenai
Co ID along ID 3 southwest of Rose Lake, Swallows Park in Clarkston, Asotin
Co WA, and the Reardan Audubon Lake in Spokane Co WA. Thanks to Gina
Sheridan, Keith Carlson, Doug Schonewald, Terry Gray, Mike and MerryLynn
Denny, Lisa Hardy, and Charles Swift for their sightings.

SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were also reported. On 13 Aug Gina Sheridan and
Garrett MacDonald found a calling SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER at Reardan Audubon
Lake just north of Reardan, Lincoln Co WA. From US 2, go north 0.25 mile
north on WA 231. WA DeLorme 88, C-1. The other SBDO was a juvy bird at
Swallows Park in Clarkston, Asotin Co WA, observed by Charles Swift.
Swallows Park is along the Snake River on the south edge of Clarkston along
WA 129. WA DeLorme 43, AB-8.

The only SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were in central WA. Doug Schonewald found 3
birds at Perch Point and 2 more at Lind Coulee on 14 Aug. Perch Point is on
Potholes Reservoir, Grant Co WA. Potholes Reservoir is southeast of Moses
Lake. From I-90 in Moses Lake, take exit 179. Turn south on WA 17 and go
about 1 mile, then turn right onto Road M SE. Drive about 6 or 6.5 miles and
turn right onto Road 6 SE. Go west about 3 miles. Here the road goes up a
steep hill and turns sharply right amongst a village of trailer houses. Just
past this sharp right, turn left onto an unimproved dirt road toward
Potholes Reservoir. Continue on to the gravel pit (aka Perch Point or
Medicare Beach). Right on the bottom of WA DeLorme 69, 6 and 7 or right at
the top of page 53, 6 and 7. To reach Lind Coulee in Grant Co WA, take WA
262 west from WA 17 between Othello and Moses Lake. Turn north on Road M.
Just after the bridge and guard rail, turn right on the dirt road. WA
DeLorme 53, A-7.

In western Walla Walla Co WA on 13 Aug, Mike and MerryLynn Denny report 2 ad
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS. Walla Walla River Delta in western Walla Walla Co WA.
The delta can be accessed 0.1 mile north of Madame Dorian Park. There's a
pull-out along US 12 at milepost 306.9 and a path to the delta. WA DeLorme
40, D-1.

On 15 Aug, Gina Sheridan and Karen and Harold Cottet found a basic plumaged
BONAPARTE'S GULL at the Reardan Audubon Lake in Lincoln Co WA. From US 2 in
Reardan, go north 0.25 mile north on WA 231. WA DeLorme 88, C-1.

Good birding.
