Tweets - My wife and I enjoyed the opera last night until 1:15 a.m., and my
alarm rang at 4:50 a.m., barely audible over the rain. Why, oh why, do
Wednesdays need extra specially bad weather for the week? By 6:00 a.m., it
was mostly down to a drizzle, which continued on and off for a couple of
hours. The morning never got exactly nice, though after around 9:00, the
birds got a bit more active as the conditions improved somewhat.

The day was slow except for the few times we intersected flocks of birds.
And then things got interesting:

Green Heron One at Rowing Club ponds
Cooper's Hawk 2 along Snag Row
Virginia Rail One heard along slough near start of boardwalk
Spotted Sandpiper At least 3 along the slough, all spotless
Anna's Hummingbird 4+, including 3 in Pea Patch
Western Wood-Pewee Large numbers (7? more?) in cottonwood forest
Willow Flycatcher Still 2+, doing "wit" call
Pac.-slope Flycatcher 3 or more, with warbler flocks
Brown Creeper 1 just south of dog area
Purple Finch 1 near east end of boardwalk

And we had warblers - a definite migration movement, with several flocks. I
think we intersected at least 3 flocks during the morning. All featured
multiple YELLOW WARBLERS. We also had three or more ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLERS, two or more BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS, and a single male
WILSON'S WARBLER.

Matt and I went to the Rowing Club afterwards, where we came across a huge
flock of BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEES, BUSHTITS, Yellow and Orange-crowned
Warblers, and we got a decent (but brief) look at the Bird-of-the-Day, a
NASHVILLE WARBLER.

So we managed, eventually, 53 species for the day. NAWA was new for the
year.
