Had the best day ever for rarities at Bassett Park. There was low numbers of migrants but there were good ones.

I had a Philadelphia vireo south of Bassett park along the road that goes through the houses, west of park. The bird was moving and I had to keep up. I doubt if it is still around but you never know. I also missed some fast moving warblers because I was tuned into the vireo. You can not miss this bird it is VERY bright on it's back (green) and belly (yellow) the yellow covers from the throat to the lower belly flank area. I never saw the vent. It has a stubby bill and dark lore's.

There was a American redstart in the large tree across from the parkinglot in the park. It was there all morning.

Had a Juv. green-tailed towhee south of Bassett Park and again at the houses(along road) NE of the park and across from the field. This bird stumped me at first. I heard a "mew" call and that attracted me to it. The bird is streaked throughout the upper and lower breast. Has a long tail and legs. the face was uncharacteristic. There was NO central breast spot as in a song sparrow and it's flight was direct. I saw the olive in the wings twice but the light conditions had to be perfect.

I also had a broad-tailed hummingbird. It was at the clumps of bushes at the SE corner of the gravel road that go's through the houses west of the park. They are at the bend. I spent an hour and a half trying to get a photo of this bird with no success. It kept returning to these shrubs every 15-30 minutes but never in a position for me. VERY FRUSTRATING!. This is a female. It looks large has reddish on flanks and connected at vent. The throat is uniformly dotted. Has dark lore's. Tail had a little red but what was interesting is when it perched you could see a complete band of white on the tail tips bording the tail. I could see this with my naked eye. The tail was longer that wingtips. I am sure this bird will be there for a while and was there 15mins. before I left.

I also had two (yes that's 2) Eurasian Collared-Doves fly over me right in the middle of the park.

There was a scattering of flycatchers; dusky 1, Pacific sloped 5, Hammond's 3western wood-peewee 7, willow 1, gray 1. Also 2 warbling vireos, a yellow warbler, a spotted towheeand two white-crowned sparrows.

This is what ya live for.
