Today the Central Basin Audubon held their annual shorebird field trip in
the Grant County area. Seventeen shorebird species were noted on the trip
which is quite good for the area. None were extremely uncommon, but the
numbers of the less common species were quite good. The following were
observed.

SOAP LAKE:

SANDERLING - 5 (all juvenile)
STILT SANDPIPER - 1
Killdeer - many
Semipalmated Plover - 3
Least Sandpiper - 20+
Western Sandpiper - 150
Spotted Sandpiper - 4
Lesser Yellowlegs - 2
Greater Yellowlegs - 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 4
Baird's Sandpiper - 3
Solitary Sandpiper - 2
Red-necked Phalarope - 150+
Wilson's Phalarope - 2

Other birds of note at Soap Lake sites included:

Bonaparte's Gull - 4
Willow Flycatcher - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 1

LAKE LENORE:

Lesser Yellowlegs - 8
Solitary Sandpiper - 5
Western Sandpiper - 14
Baird's Sandpiper - 4
Long-billed Dowitcher - 1

Chukar - heard only
Lark Sparrow - 8+
Osprey - 1
Common Goldeneye - 1

PERCH POINT:

Lesser Yellowlegs - 2

With the temperature approaching 100 degrees we elected to call it a day
and left Lind Coulee without getting a good view at all of the shorebirds
available.
