A juvy RED PHALAROPE molting into first basic plumage was observed 17 Aug by
Michael & Roger Woodruff, Garrett MacDonald, Paula, and Gina Sheridan at
Philleo Lake, west of Spangle in Spokane Co WA along with 6 species of
sandpiper and a single RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. Also there was a single
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER and 2 juvy SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS. From 195, head
west at the Spangle jct, immediately right onto Jenness Road. After about 2
miles, veer left toward the lake. WA DeLorme 73, A-5.

Another juvy RED PHALAROPE was seen by Gina Sheridan on Sheep Lake in
northwestern Whitman Co WA on 17 Aug. On 16 Aug Jim Acton had spied a juvy
SANDERLING there; it was still present on the 17th. The RED PHALAROPE was
still present on the 18th according to Jim Acton. Sheep Lake is along WA 23
about 1.5 miles south of the Whitman-Lincoln Co lines. WA DeLorme 72, BC-1.

Several great one-day-wonders were at Bassett Park, Washtucna, Adams Co WA
on 21 Aug according to Bob Flores. Bob observed a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, a juvy
GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE, and a female BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD.

Big numbers of STILT SANDPIPERS were reported region-wide... just about
every suitable shorebird habitat saw this species.

Marian Frobe found a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER on 19 Aug at the Reardan Audubon
Lake just north of Reardan, Lincoln Co WA. From US 2, go north 0.25 mile
north on WA 231. WA DeLorme 88, C-1.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen in Othello, Grant Co WA on 18 Aug by Bob
Flores near the corner of Spruce and 8th.
