Just back from Ocean Shores, nothing much in the way of unusual shorebirds to report unfortunately, but I did get a very good look at a Northern Mockingbird there at 4:30 p.m. on Wed., August 24. It was along E. Oceanside Blvd. about 150 ft. north of the chainlink fence and small parking area on the north side of the Sewage Treatment Area, next to the first house just north of the treatment area. I first saw it flying and then watched it with my 10X binocs perched atop the tall (Wax Myrtle?) shrubbery behind the house. Robin-sized, gray and white, with a slight curve to the upper mandible, prominent white wing-patches, and white outer tail feathers. Also watched four to six Sooty Shearwaters and two Gray Whales 200-300 yards south of the base of Brown's Point jetty; both were much closer to the jetty than I had expected to find them.
