Friday, August 12, 1:39, AM. Hello. This is Wayne Weber from Delta, BC. My
phone number is 604-597-7201. I'd like to report an UPLAND SANDPIPER, which I
heard in flight about 9:15 PM on August 11th, just as it was getting dark.
The location is just north of Acme in Whatcom County, just east of State
Highway 9. The bird was heard along Homesteader Road, half a mile east of Highway
9, and about a quarter mile east of the junction of Homesteader Road and
Standard Road. the bird was flying overhead, although it appeared not to be flying
in a straight line. It may have been circling around. It may, in fact, have
landed nearby. I heard it call 6 times within about a minute. It's possible
the bird could still be in the area tomorrow morning, although I think the
chances of finding it are probably small. At the same spot, at the same time, on
Homesteader Road, there were also 2 BARN OWLS, which were circling around,
and hunting, for quite a while. Also on August 11th, at the North end of Lummi
Bay, along the Lummi Bay dike, accessed from the end of Decatur Drive in the
Sandy Point Heights subdivision, there is a slough just on the inner side of
the dike, which was full of shorebirds. 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were there,
among about 130 LEASTS and 20 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, and there were also at least
25 LESSER and 15 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. In addition I saw a BULLOCK'S ORIOLE
flying along the dike, which is getting a little bit late for that species.

Thursday, August 18, 5:57, AM. Hi, this is Tom Aversa, 782-7342, reporting
on a trip yesterday to Grant County. Apparently the rain brought in some
migrants. I found some shorebirds in various spots. At Soap Lake there were 3
early SANDERLINGS, 2 STILT SANDPIPERS, and 118 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS. This
species was present everywhere I went in good numbers, the latter species. At
Ephrata, at the Oasis, there was a couple of HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHERS, 2 early
WINTER WRENS, and 4 MacGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS. At Sun Lakes State Park there was a
MacGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER, 5 WILSON'S WARBLERS, and 80 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH.

Saturday, August 20, 10:53 PM. Steve Gain, 206-368-6887. Today on Jetty
Island I had a WANDERING TATTLER. Also 4 juvenile BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, and 1
LONG-BILLED CURLEW. The birds were all in or around the lagoon between 3:30 and
5:30 PM.
Monday, August 22, 3:50, PM. Hi. This is Brad Wilson, 845-3216, calling a
GREAT EGRET at Pierce County's Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood. The bird was
seen about 3:30. I work here in the park and it is the first time I've seen
one in 14 years. The bird is located in the Southeastern corner of the lake.
The lake is very small. It only takes 1 mile to walk around it, so it is very
easy to spot. I don't know how long this bird has been here, because I've been
gone for the last 4 days and just came to work and just now discovered it.
So, its a pretty cool bird to see here in the county. That's it. Thank you,
