Well, I'm about as sure as I can be given that I've never seen one before and
pictures only do so much. It was not a breeding plumage bird. Saw it while
I was kayaking north of Swantown marina right offshore from the KGY radio
station. It dove 3-4X and I was as close as 10 meters away. Definitely a very
small alcid and I've seen my share of murres, guillemots, etc., to know it wasn't
anything common. It had a dusky cap, whitish throat. The only real problem
I have with calling it an immature marbled is that the dark cap did not drop
conspicuously below the eye. Comments?
