Hi Tweeters,
The Falcon Research Group is currently conducting our fifth annual hawk migration study at Entiat Ridge, near Leavenworth, WA. Each fall, we capture and band 200+ hawks and falcons at the ridge from approximately 1 September through mid-October.
This year, we will be leading field trips up to the site for those people interested in learning more about migrant hawks in the Cascades. We will be meeting on each Saturday in September (starting 3 September) at 0900 in the Safeway parking lot on US Hwy 2, slightly east of the town of Leavenworth (look for my black pick-up truck in the lot). From there, (weather permitting) we will drive up to the station at 5,000' elevation, about 25 minutes by car, mostly on a dirt logging road (2WD OK). We will be both observing the migration and covering hawk ID skills (primarily accipiters) for 4 hours (1000-1400). If we are lucky that day, the banders may send down some banded birds for us to examine in hand. The banding station is about a half mile from the observation site where we be stationed but within view. This is intended to be a great way to see some migrant hawks as well as to just have some fun. We invite any of you that are genuinely interested in hawks to join us, There is no charge. If possible, please let us know ahead of time if you plan to be there so we have some idea of how many people are coming.
The peak of our hawk migration is generally the third week of September and yes, it is a great place to take shots of hawks in flight.
If you have any questions ahead of time, please contact me at the phone/e-mail below.
See you there,

Bud Anderson
