Today I spent a few hours searching out shorebirds at both Soap Lake and
Potholes Reservoir. There were few birds at Soap Lake, but Potholes has been
a continuing bonanza. Here are a few of the highlights.

Soap Lake:

Black-bellied Plover - 1 juvenile
Sanderling - 4
Red-necked Phalarope - 140+
American Avocet - very nice in fresh winter plumage
Least Sandpiper - 11
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 1
Western Sandpiper - 14
Greater Yellowlegs - 1
Lesser Yellowlegs - 3
Baird's Sandpiper - 1

Perch Point (Potholes Reservoir):

Semipalmated Plover - 1
Greater Yellowlegs - 9
Lesser Yellowlegs - 10
Spotted Sandpiper - 2
Solitary Sandpiper - 1
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 7
Western Sandpiper - 1000+
Least Sandpiper - 2
Pectoral Sandpiper - 2
Stilt Sandpiper - 21
Long-billed Dowitcher - 19
Short-billed Dowitcher - 2 (identified primarily by tu-tu call)
Baird's Sandpiper - 3
Great Egret - 136
American White Pelican - 81

Lind Coulee (East & West of Rd M Bridge):

Greater Yellowlegs - 1
Lesser Yellowlegs - 16
Solitary Sandpiper - 3
Western Sandpiper - 2500+ (huge number for inland)
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 5
Baird's Sandpiper - 1
Stilt Sandpiper - 27
Long-billed Dowitcher - 21

Potholes State Park (beaches both north and south):

Greater Yellowlegs - 5
Lesser Yellowlegs - 9
Solitary Sandpiper - 1
SANDERLING - 7
Western Sandpiper - 500+
Least Sandpiper - 43
Stilt Sandpiper - 16
Long-billed Dowitcher - 12
Common Tern - 9

In addition, there were many migrants in the trees at Potholes Park, but
the 20 - 30 mph winds made searching for them impossible in the fully leafed
canopy. I did manage Townsend's, Yellow, Wilson's, and Yellow-rumped
Warblers; several Warbling Vireo, and a few Western Tanagers, but there were
more birds than that.
