Hi Tweets:
We will be heading there today. I was at Perch Point on Sunday in the late
afternoon until about 7:30pm. 85 Great Egrets came into the wetlands right
below us. Great views of many (40?) Stilt Sandpipers. Many more shorebirds
too.
Directions: After turning west on paved 6 SE proceed 2.5 miles to the
turnoff on the left onto a dirt road where the public fishing sign is. The
sign is a little hard to see, and is just past a farm house on the left. I
then only drove about 2 blocks in my city car on the dirt road, before
dropping down to the wetland below on the right. No problem w/ my Taurus
wagon. (Right now I can't afford to drive my SUV w/ high clearance.)
Apparently viewing ponds such as the McCain Potato ponds in Othello (more
shorebirds right now) is best in the morning light. Afternoon is the best
time for viewing at Lind Coulee (more shorebirds there too) and Perch Point.
Perch Point is absolutely the greatest place right now for birds and viewing
and nice views of Potholes Reservoir behind the dunes. It reminded me of
great birding in Texas. Wow.
Yours, Carol Schulz
