Tweets,
Last week Kelly McAllister reported a Wh-t Kite (few reports on listserve)
that continues this week at Rocky Prairie north of Tenino. Access: Walk west
~7 min. on the semi-abandoned rail spur from Offut Lake Rd & Old Hwy 99, 2-3
mi north of Tenino. Park at the grocery/gas station or the bar next door.
(Good idea to ask permission of proprietor.) The rail line skirts the
northern edge of Rocky Prairie, which begins just beyond the main rail line
overpass. Mon & Thur the adult bird was observed flying, kiting, and
perching in fir trees in the eastern sector of the prairie. A scope is
advisable (1/4+ mi?) but not required. There may be access off Old Hwy 99
further south via Angus Rd westward beyond the rail overpass, but this
appears to become private roadway into a number of farm properties. Delorme
46-A-1 (A.7-1.5).
Good birding!
