Subject: [Tweeters] Juanita Bay Park odd gull behavior

It was a quiet late morning at Juanita Bay Park as the snow was just
starting to think about falling, then did. Not many ducks near the
viewpoints, only saw a few Grn-winged Teal by the west viewpt. What at
first looked like a mouse going up the trunk of an alder near the west
viewpt turned out to be a Winter Wren. One heron by the north end of the
old roadway, where a few Hooded Merganser were also fairly close in.

Interesting behavior by a gull (sorry, couldn't see what kind [no binocs
along--for shame]), but one of the medium-small variety) harrassing a male
Shoveler duck (observed 40-50 feet out from north end of old roadway).
Repeatedly dived at the duck, causing the duck to take evasive action by
going under and staying under the water repeatedly over several minutes
time. The duck would barely come up for a breath and the minute the gull
spotted where it came up, it was right on top of it and under the duck would
go again. There were a few other waterfowl around and the gull didn't seem
interested in them. Didn't think a Shoveler would be finding anything of
interest to a gull, so I'm scratching my head on this one---has anybody seen
anything like this before or have any ideas? Thanks....
