Tweets - I saw Redstart at about 11:30, after a long search. In the same area I also saw YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER (nice to get a 3-warbler spot in W. WA in December).

At the Boeing Ponds, in a stiff, cold wind, I failed to find the Say's Phoebe, but there was a juvenile GREEN HERON, another nice bird for December.

American Lake near Fort Lewis featured several CANVASBACK and two REDHEAD, as well as a bunch of other ducks. Lots of CALIFORNIA and RING-BILLED GULLS, but no Bonaparte's, and certainly nothing more exciting.

At 1:00 today the AMERICAN REDSTART was with a flock of birds at the previous location on M Street and 29th NW of Emerald Downs. Other attendees were Black-caped Chickadee, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Bushtit and an American Goldfinch. There were no Snowy Owls in the flock.

I agree with Gene H. that the flank patches were orange-yellow. The Peterson Warbler Field Guide describes and pictures this bird as a first fall male.
