Seattle Audubon has field trips going to the Samish and Skagit flats
every month through February. These are great trips for people needing
accessibility. There can be a little walking, but many fabulous winter
raptors and water birds are visible from the car with no walking. Have
you considered signing up someone as your guest for a different,
adventuresome kind of Christmas gift? Those of us with disabilities are
fairly dependent on getting some exercise. I?ve found birding to be good
exercise for my condition, and the company of birders with interesting
conversations about nature and birds keeps my mind off limitation or
discomfort. Actually, it?s been downright empowering!

Seattle Audubon has a sign up next week, and I?m sure there are many
other birding groups around the state that will make a run on the Samish
Flats.

Oh, and if you?ve noticed that my annual accessible birding trek up
north isn?t on the list, I deeply apologize for missing the deadline
this year. Believe me, it?s my loss, and I have every intention of
continuing these and other Accessible Birding trips. In the meantime
enjoy a new venture and include someone you know!
