I agree with the Global Warming idea. There are dozens of "weeds" that should not invade this country because of the cold temps of winter but here they are. Are they better able to adapt? who knows a classic is saltcedar once thought to be a warm weather plant?

Well, food source changes might explain the Lesser Goldfinch range expansion; so might --- dare I say --- global warming. There are a whole sweet (okay, suite) of birds I associate with California (or Oregon) that are moving steadily north including W Scrub J, Red-shouldered Hawk, Black Phoebe and others.
