Hello, Thought I'd add another tid-bit regarding Snowy Owls in the oilfields
of arctic Alaska. I've spent 12 summers and an accumulated 463 days working
with birds at Prudhoe Bay and the immediate vicinity. Snowy Owls have always
been scarce within the oilfield and most summers don't particularly occur at
all. Several pair sometimes nest in the large river deltas that border the
fields to the east and west, but even if these few were disturbed it
certainly would not account for the number of birds seen in the Northwest
this winter. I believe we need to look elsewhere for a cause.
