There are a number of reports of the local Snowy Owl being seen. It is
usually seen on the Coast Guard Air Station at the end of Ediz Hook. One
thing to remember is that unless you have proper clearance you are not going
out on the base.
However, if you park near the gate to the Coast Guard Station and walk
to the left (Strait) end of the green fence there is enough space for you to
barely set up a scope and look down the actual rock jetty and that is where
my wife and I saw the beautiful individual which is said to be a young
female with heavy black streaking. This is apparently its favorite roosting
spot. It has been seen further west on the public portion of Ediz Hook while
hunting.
