Dear Tweeters,

On Sunday I saw a flock of about 400 Ring-billed Gulls
at the West Ninety, Samish Flats, Skagit County. Among
these were at least ten birds that had slightly rosy
breasts.

At the Green Road pond, just north of Burlington, a
small flock of Ring-necked Ducks and American Wigeon
also included a female Canvasback.

At Fir Island, dusk brought quite a spectacle. About
10,000 Snow Geese, maybe twice that many Mallards and
Pintails, a thousand Dunlin, five hundred Trumpeter
Swans, and a hundred or so Tundra Swans were all
flying up, calling, crying, and trumpeting--an
impressive clamor indeed, especially when it is all
around one. Meanwhile, a Short-eared Owl dared to fly
around, as two Snowy Owls started flying around and
getting ready for night.

Over at the North Fork Access, at least five
Short-eared Owls had also dared to fly about in the
presence of a Snowy.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
