If anyone out there is seeking a super CBC to try on Dec. 17, look no
further--we've got the CBC for you! It's the Everett CBC, covering a nice
chunk of real estate in n. Snohomish Co, from central Everett up to Island
Crossing (south to north), and Getchell Hill Rd (east to 123rd) to Kayak Pt
(running east to west). Areas needing birders (maps to be sent with other
materials) include:

AREA 1: n.w. edge of circle, includes Lakes Goodwin and Shoecraft (and a
couple smaller lakes nearby), edge of Kayak Pt including golf course, along
Marine View Rd salt water access tough but there is a small one right at the
Tulare Beach turnoff at bottom of hill. Lots of wooded and margin habitat,
good for birder who likes finding less common small woodland birds.
Possibly to be joined by one birder who covered area last year.

AREA 4: Square (Gissburg) Lakes, Lakewood. This inland territory includes
Lakes Loma and Ki, and gets close to L. Goodwin. The RR tracks run
north-south and along them is good scrub habitat for sparrows, other
scrub/field sp. Perhaps could be combined with Area 1 depending on response
to this e-mail. Greg Toffic found a Sandhill Crane (!) one CBC and in 2004
there was Blue-winged Teal.

AREA 8: Marysville/Marysville STP. Need birder who especially likes
Lincoln's and other sparrows. Susie Schaefer has covered the site in the
past but asks for help, especially on the sparrow action, right Susie?
Includes Marysville STP, which last year had a Count-week Cinnamon Teal.
There is extensive flatland with marshy, brambly Canary grass and weedy
alder thickets about the ponds. There seems to be a new access along a dike
trail that heads off from the s.e. corner of the southernmost sewage pond;
very good spot for ducks and sparrows and a nice stroll through the flats.
Other accesses into the flats might be had off Sunnyside (the northern
half), as the territory includes Ebey Slough. Marysville proper is less
birdy but there are several parks throughout the town (Jennings perhaps most
important, Quilceda Creek runs right through), last year there was a report
of a W. Scrub-Jay near the edge, at a residence on 4th Ave. Whaddya say,
Steve M? This could be you!

AREA 10: s.e. corner--includes n. end of Ebey Island and a large chunk of
river floodplain habitat north of there. The southern half of Sunnyside Rd
runs through the center of the territory.

If you are interested one of these or another site (another upland site east
of Hwy 9 might need a birder or two), we may well be able to fit you in,
just drop Mary (meteesdale at hotmail.com) or me a line. This count had a big
day last year (137 species) and yet we could have used a few more birders.
So why not catch the CBC fever? Come out and join us!
